30 Before 30 Update

Nearly a year has gone by since I decided to make my 30 Before 30 list, so I thought I would do a little update on what I have accomplished so far.

1. Get married
Yup, that happened on August 3rd and soon I will have all the pictures to prove it! Until then you will just have to be happy with this one.

It was a fun wedding...in case you couldn't tell!

17. Do a handstand
I have overcome my fears of throwing my legs over my head and was able to get my first handstand thanks to my awesome coach at CrossFit! I don't know why I was so silly about handstands to begin with, but now I'm able to do them against a wall. My next goal will be to do an unassisted handstand (no wall) and a handstand push up!

22. Complete a fun run
I have now completed two fun runs...well, I'm not sure many people would call Tough Mudder a "fun run", but I think I can count it here! So I completed Tough Mudder back in April with my CrossFit peeps and Memorial Day weekend I took part in the Color Run!

29. Go zip-lining
A and I had a day of fun filled zip-lining adventure while we were on our honeymoon!

Pictures and video coming soon

Others on my list that I am close to completing:
4. Travel to 10 new states - We spent the day in Miami on our way back from our honeymoon. So, 1/10 complete.
7. Travel to 2 new countries - St. Lucia for our honeymoon. 1/2 way there!
12. Complete an Olympic distance triathlon - signed up for the Marin County Triathlon on November 2! Wish me luck!
18. Be able to do 20 unassisted pull-ups - I'm so close to getting my first unassisted pull up...working towards that every time I'm in the gym!
20. Lose & maintain a healthy weight - also on my way with this one. The wedding was a pretty good motivator, and I've adopted a mainly Paleo/Whole 30ish lifestyle. That really helps me.
23. See a Broadway play - Can you believe I've never been to New York city!? Hopefully we can make a trip out there sometime soon.

Color Dash

Kyleen and I - Before and After!
While Andrew was away on his Bachelor party river rafting the American river, I signed myself up for the Color Dash with my friend Kyleen!

All nice and clean

Before we went for our run
Before we started the dash, we ran into some of our friends from Captain CrossFit! A few of us got a little heavy handed dishing out color...as you can see I was hardly hit!

Trailhead
The Color Dash followed the 5k trail at Brownlow in Prescott. I had no idea this trail even existed, but I'm very happy I found it. I'm definitely going to go back and run it again! There were a ton of hills, but the trail has both a 5k and a 10k loop, which will be perfect for my training.

Start/Finish line
Kyleen and I finished the dash in pretty good time. We saw some friends along the trail and just had a good time chatting (when we had breath)!

A little dash of color
Kyleen got a lot more color than I did!

Our friends got a little more color than we did!

Meeting up after the run
Our friend's son decided I didn't get nearly enough coloring on me, so he proceed to throw his whole bag of yellow pigment on me right after this photo was taken! You can see him plotting back there!

Captain CrossFit crew!
Here we are with some of the CrossFit women that showed up! Overall it was a super fun day and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is wanting to take part in a fun run. It's not at all competitive, so grab some friends and sign up for one in your town.

30 Before 30

If you read my post about achieving my 2012 goals (if you haven't, you can read it here), you would know that I've created a bucket list of 30 things to do before I turn 30!  I'm so excited about this list!

As you can see, some things are able to be tackled more easily (eg. Get married...this one is already in processed), while others will take some time.  Which is why I'm giving myself 5 years to complete this list.  All things are totally do-able, but many will be truly challenging for me.

I tried to balance my list between things that will cost money (2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 19, 23, 28, 29), and things that are relatively cheap/free (5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30).  Overall I'm pretty happy about this list!

I can't wait to get started!!

Achieving my 2012 Goals

I just recently turned 25 ~ gasp ~ I know...I'm soooo old...

Since reaching this momentous year I've been looking back at everything I've accomplished throughout my short lifetime.  I have done a lot.  Like seriously, heaps of stuff has been checked off my bucket list.  I have found, however, that to grow as a person we need to continually challenge ourselves and our preconceived notions.

For example, last year I set out with two major goals; to quit smoking and to complete a triathlon.  Now each of these goals in their own right are difficult (trust me I tried quitting a million times), but trying to conquer them both in the same year?  Crazy!

Well I am pretty crazy.  I had always been in awe of people who compete in triathlons.  How insane...to put your body through 3 serious sports one after the other!  But I wanted to do that.  I wanted to be one of those insane people who could say to others,
"Ya, I've finished a triathlon.  No biggie!"
I got this crazy idea from my superbly awesome dad.  When I was younger he was crazy enough to compete in an Ironman!  What a weirdo.  He trained for 4 hours a day, everyday, for almost a year!

What a stud!
My dad wasn't in peak physical condition when he started out for his Ironman, so why couldn't I accomplish my pretty achievable goal of a Sprint Triathlon?  I could.  The only person stopping me was, well, me!  As cliched as that sounds, I would be the only one capable of completing my goal, or standing in my own way.

So I trained, and I trained.  And then I trained some more.  I certainly wasn't (and still am not) in the best physical shape.  Having worked at an office where it was very regular to be sitting at a desk 10+ hours a day, smoking around a pack a day, and routinely eating terrible foods, I knew I had my work cut out for me.

But on November 3, 2012 I completed my first ever triathlon!  I somehow even convinced my dad to compete with me!

My dad and I after completing the Marin County Sprint Triathlon
My biggest fan!
My entire family came out to support us!  It was the most incredible feeling...accomplishing something you knew was going to be extremely challenging.

I would never have been able to finish the triathlon if I hadn't stuck to my first goal...quitting smoking.  That in itself would have been enough of an accomplishment for me.  I had been a smoker for 5 years before finally quitting.  My life will never be the same again.

I don't bring up my incredible feats to rub it in your face!  Far from it.  I share with you these goals to remind myself that you have to keep challenging yourself.

Which brings me to my next list of goals - 30 things to do before I turn 30.  To be shared soon!
