Photographer Spotlight

Dan Marbaix is my photographer to spotlight this week.  I found him through an article I was reading and fell in love with his work.  I mean...how could you not?  His images are breathtaking and then you realize that he shoots in abandoned places and it just about breaks your heart.  His images capture times long gone, loss, decay...and still you can't tear your eyes away.

He has been arrested 20 times for trespassing...but isn't it so worth it!?

A Few of my Recent Favorites

I feel like I've been running around like a crazy person the last couple weeks.  Everything just started all at once: school, work, more work, house keeping...lame.  I've compiled a few things that made me pause and smile these past weeks.  I hope you enjoy them too!

  1. I'm a sucker for beautiful photography and I instantly fell in love with these shots that Nick Brandt took at the shoreline of Lake Natron in Tanzania.
  2. I'm a CrossFit addict.  I've joined the ranks of the CrossFit cult...I practically live at our local box, mainly because I work there, but that's another story!  If you follow health related media at all I'm sure you would have seen the controversy over the pregnant mom who CrossFits.
  3. Ever since I first saw this beautiful Photographer's Tripod Floor Lamp from Pottery Barn I knew I needed it in my life.  Unfortunately I could never justify that price tag.  Luckily, I ran across this the other day - a DIY spotlight tutorial!  Yay!
  4. With Halloween around the corner, and all those cute costumes on Pinterest, I was quickly reminded of the horrors of Halloweens past with these photos.
  5. Jamie Moore is in incredible photographer, and an even cooler mom.  Check out these portraits she made of her daughter.

Everyday Ballet

Just ran across these photographs by Jordan Matter and instantly fell in love!  He has photographed ballet dancers in random situations.  There are many amazing photographs, but here are my favorites!

Weekend Getaway

Now that I've started back up at school I have this strange longing for Summer again!  Of course it still feels like summer (hello mid-80s and monsoons), but the spontaneous Summer trips have come to an end.

I am particularly nostalgic for a specific weekend Andrew and I shared with a couple friends.  It was such an incredible weekend!

Arrived at our favorite airport.  Seriously, avoid LAX whenever possible!
A fabulous weekend would be nothing without getting off to a great start on the Friday evening.  Andrew's parents spoiled us kids by inviting us to join them in their box at the Hollywood Bowl to see none other than Willie Nelson!

I took my Nikon in to get some good shots of the gang and the stage, but they stopped me at the gate and said I couldn't bring in my snazzy camera.  Well jokes on them because I have an iPhone 5 that happens to take incredible pictures too!

The whole concert was just incredible.  Lyle Lovett & His Large Band opened and Willie played his entire album Stardust.

The next morning we got up bright and early (no hangovers in this crowd, but that can't be said for everyone who attended the concert) to drove up to the cabin.

The drive was stunning, as always, although this time the mountains were trapping the smoke that was coming off a huge fire in Southern California.

We then proceeded to spend the rest of the weekend lounging and playing around on the boat.

Friends from New York enjoying the California summer!

Half of the fun of playing around on the lake is perving on all the beautiful homes that surround the water!  This one isn't nearly one of the biggest lake-side homes, but I love those huge windows!

The only picture of Andrew and I.  This is the sad reality of always being behind the camera!
What a handsome devil!
We only had a few hours to play on the boat on Sunday, so water skiing it was!

This is before he realized how cold the water was!
Showing off

Gotta keep that flag up!

It's a Zoo in Here

I just found my new favorite print shop!  This year I really got into photography.  I have always loved it (hello I did go to Film School), but I was never very confident in my own photography skills.  That is until last semester I took my first ever photography course - 35mm black & white film photography.  It was amazing and totally got me hooked!  I signed up for a digital photography class this year, and I can't wait.

In any event, I'm constantly scouring the web for great prints.  Our walls in our house are really boring and I believe that you can never have too much art!  Then this morning I stumbled onto this incredible site and completely fell in love!
